"It’s now a legal requirement to make provision for tools falling when working at height”

Who is this course for?

This tool safety course is designed for anyone whose job requires specifying, fitting and supervising tool tethering systems, or those using tools at height.

What are the objectives of the course?

The aim of the course is to keep it simple, practical and directly relevant, covering selection and suitability across tool solutions for the scope of activities and work being done. The strength of this course lies in its practical element which allows the delegates to physically try and apply a wide range of tool safety solutions, including lanyards and tethers, anchors etc to a wide variety of hand tools covering most tool  handle configurations.

Are you breaking the law without knowing it?

The legal requirement in-line with localised dispensation and European Directives has been brought into effect by the introduction of ‘The Working at Height Regulations 2005’ - specifically covered in Regulations 10 and 11 (Falling objects) which says:

  • Where it is necessary to prevent injury, you must do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anything falling.
  • If it’s not reasonably practicable, you must ensure that no one is injured by anything falling.
  • You must ensure that nothing is: Thrown or tipped from height if it is likely to injure anyone.
Stored in such a way that its movement is likely to injure.
  • If the workplace contains an area in which there is a risk of someone being struck by a falling object or person, you must ensure that the area is
clearly indicated and that as far as reasonably practicable unauthorised people are unable to reach it.

Dropped tools often cause harm, damage to machinery, and create costs associated with production time.   Statistically, falling objects are one of the primary causes of injuries in the UK workplace.
